Girona is one of the four Catalonian provinces and it is situated on the north east corner of the region, separated from France by the Pyrenees range of mountains. The most remarkable feature of Girona is its contrast. In this land, we can go from the ski resorts of the Pyrenees to the beautiful beaches of the well-known Costa Brava in less than two hours. Stunning beaches, coves, cliffs and fishing villages are gift visitors’ eyes with a prodigious spectacle on a coast that became one of the most important commercial areas of the Mediterranean in ancient times. The roman ruins of Empuries are of a tremendous cultural value as it reveals the great trading activity that once experienced this part of the coast.

The inland areas show an amazing diversity in a territory full of contrasts. Farm houses, hermitages and Romanesque churches are found within green meadows and valleys that descend from the high peaks of the Pyrenees. Figueres is the birthplace of the famous painter Dalí and a museum dedicated to his life can be visited. In Cadaqués, we can visit the house where he lived with his life Gala.
Half way between Barcelona and the French city of Perpignan, between the sea and the mountain, Girona enjoys a privileged location and conserves one of the best cultural heritages in Spain. It counts with three unique elements in Europe: the defensive walls which are the longest in Western Europe from Carlomagno times, the well-preserved Jewish district and the Cathedral with the broadest gothic nave in the world. Besides, Girona offers numerous Romanesque and gothic buildings, museums and other monumental buildings that tell about the glorious past of this bordering land.
